Seasonal Flu Vaccination
My Family Doctor offers a bespoke seasonal influenza vaccination service to your company. The aim of providing vaccination to your staff is to provide protection against seasonal influenza. Seasonal Influenza is responsible for staff absenteeism and vaccination is one way to reduce sick leave. We are able to come direct to your offices and vaccinate any staff members that wish to receive the flu vaccine.
What is Influenza (flu)?
Influenza (flu) is a highly infectious virus that infects the respiratory tract (the ear, nose and throat). The flu virus is spread by respiratory droplets in the air produced by coughing or sneezing. It can also be spread around offices and public places by hand to eye or hand to mouth contact.
Although most people recover from flu within a week, the infection can sometimes be more serious and result in complications such as pneumonia and hospital admission.
How the Flu Vaccine Works
The flu vaccine contains two types of Influenza A and one type of Influenza B. The flu virus is regularly changing and therefore a new vaccine is made every year, containing the current strains recommended by the World Health Organisation.
Does this vaccine contain the Swine Flu Strain (H1N1v)?
The swine flu vaccines are separate vaccines. Currently, the National Health Service is procuring the swine flu vaccines for ‘at risk groups’ only and supplies are not being made readily available to private providers.
If any of your staff are in an at risk group, then they will be able to have the swine flu vaccine through the National Health Service. At risk groups will receive both the swine flu vaccine and the usual seasonal flu vaccine.
The 2009/10 seasonal flu vaccine that we are providing is still recommended and is not covered by the Swine Flu vaccine being offered to at risk groups. This is because other seasonal flu strains are still expected to be circulating in addition to swine flu.
