Swine Flu Testing
We can test for Swine Flu (Influenza A H1N1) in your home or hotel.
The test
This test is very simple and involves the Doctor taking one swab from your nose and one from your throat. Results are normally available between 24 to 48 hours later. The test should be done whilst you are symptomatic.
Why have the test?
- If you have confirmed swine flu, you will not need to have the newly available swine flu vaccination.
- It may be advantageous to know that the swabs are negative as it may reduce the time you are expected to take off work.
- The result of the test may help guide your decisions if you are travelling.
Is the test accurate?
Positive tests are reliable as the test looks for evidence of the virus's DNA. A negative test, although a useful guide, cannot always completely rule out swine flu. The accuracy will be increased if the swab is taken whilst you have symptoms such as a runny nose and sneezing.
